I always found it interesting that the religious right wants Disney to ban Gay Days but gets offended when some object to their Christian themed Weekend of Joy. Any religious institution that judges others by whom they choose to love is not worthy of a second glance from me. Jmo.

We were there this year.
As with any group, there are those who overindulge, and those who bring in alcoholic beverages. Night of Joy and Grad Night are two such other events that see those same behaviors. At the MK we saw so very many people simply having a good time! It is empowering to have physical evidence that you are not alone in this world. Not everyone wears red, but enough do to bring you all together if only for a few brief hours. We did stop by the host hotel, and toured the vendors. Borrrrrrring... there was absolutely nothing there of real interest. We were hoping for more of a "merchandise" theme (t shirts, gay pride items, ect) instead of the heavily represented collectibles (comics, comic figures, so on) and booths offering some services. We passed by the 18 and older "room" as we have no interest in that sort of thing. It is important to not confuse the attendance and activities at the host hotel, with the attendance at MK on that first Saturday. Both are very different events, and to compare them is truly to try and compares bulls to oranges. Gay Day at MK is truly nothing more dramatic than a bunch of people, coming together to enjoy Disney. If there are others who object to that then yes, they should leave the park. If Disney chooses to refund their money, fine. That's Disney's business. I think Disney does a fine job of managing the whole matter, without having to be an official "sponsor." I will say this, if you've never seen the parades or the Country Bear Jamboree on that first Saturday in June, then you've NEVER been witness to total enjoyment in those events! We go mostly to soak up the atmosphere. We'll continue to do so, for that very reason. |
