George Steinbrenner passed away today. He was hated, loved, respected and feared by the players, managers, and the fans. He took the Yankees from a medicore team in the early 70's to the powerhouse they are today. He will be missed.

Never was a fan of the man, but I did appreciate that he had a sense of humor about himself. Condolences to his family.

I am a Yankee fan. George was tough as nails, but he made that team a winner.
Rest George. Grand Slam. |

We loved him in NY. His antics were always back page news (Daily news back page is where all the sports headlines show up).

Love/hate might be a better description. While he was responsible for some of the Yankees biggest highs, he was also responsible for some of their biggest lows, imo.

As a Red Sox season ticket holder, I'll miss George. Say what you want, but he was incredibly competitive and forced all around him to raise their game...especially the Red Sox.
In many ways, Sports is about passion, and George had that in ample supply! |

The biggest low was the CBS Ownership of the team in the 60's and early 70's when they were medicore at best.
